Simon Busuttil
Director and Chairman
 

Born in 1969, Simon Busuttil graduated in law and specialised in European Studies. He followed EU affairs on a professional basis since 1994 providing legal advice to private and public entities in Malta and abroad on EU business law, notably internal market issues and competition. He also worked extensively on transposition of EU law into national legislation.

He has a long experience in lecturing and training on EU affairs at the University of Malta but also in the public sector and in industry. He also lectured and participated in conferences as speaker in Brussels, London, Rome, Budapest, Bucharest and Tirana.

In the run-up to Malta’s accession to the European Union in 2004, Simon Busuttil led the national public communications campaign on EU membership at the helm of the Malta-EU Information Centre and was also a member of Malta’s EU negotiating team.

In December 2003, he was appointed by the President of Malta as a Member of the National Order of Merit (MOM) for service rendered to the country.

In June 2004 he became the first Maltese member of the European Parliament. As MEP he follows budgetary issues, justice and home affairs and the Euro-Med region.

Simon Busuttil is the chairman of Europa Research and Consultancy Services (ERCS) Ltd and is a partner in the law firm Ganado Sammut Advocates.

He is married to Nadia and they have two sons, Gregory and Zachary.
