Stefano Mallia Director

Stefano Mallia is the Managing Director of Europa Research and Consultancy Services and a Partner at EMCS Ltd in Malta. Following the completion of his honours degree, Stefano worked at the Malta Chamber of Commerce where he held the post of national affairs co-ordinator. Whilst at the Chamber of Commerce, he dealt with a number of issues affecting the business community (e.g. the introduction of Competition Law) and also held the post of editor of the Chamber’s monthly journal “The Commercial Courier”. During his second year at the Malta Chamber of Commerce Stefano completed a Masters degree in European Studies at the University of Malta. Stefano then moved on to the shipping sector where he worked as a marketing executive dealing with business in the UK, Belgium and the Far East following which he joined EMCS Ltd as a business analyst. Stefano has an excellent knowledge of the Maltese economy as well as of the main issues concerning Malta’s EU Membership. He has in fact been involved in a number of EU impact assessments for various sectors of the economy. Many of these reports were used for subsequent restructuring programmes. Stefano has also been involved in a number of market studies for public entities as well as private organizations. He was one of the main authors of the first detailed proposal for a Social pact for Malta and has been involved in the drafting of a number of policy documents for one of Malta’s main trade unions. Stefano has also been involved as a key expert in the evaluation of the EQUAL programme as well as the evaluation of Pre-Accession and Transition Facility projects, including projects aimed at enhancing the labour market. He has also participated in a market related study commissioned by the European Commission. For the past five years Stefano has been elected on the Council of the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise where he currently holds the position of Senior Vice President. Stefano is President of the Malta Business Foundation.
