Euro Changeover Price Monitoring Exercise In view of the Euro changeover process, one of Malta's leading trade unions (UHM) embarked upon a price-monitoring exercise, which aimed to monitor prices of a selection of goods and services.

The aim of this exercise was to bolster consumer confidence in parallel with a number of other initiatives taken by public authorities also aimed at enhancing consumers’ confidence in the changeover process. In this regard, the UHM engaged a team of experts from EUROPA Research and Consultancy Services to formulate a basket of 200 items that are typically bought on a ‘day-to-day’ basis, and to monitor their price developments from a selection of outlets across Malta and Gozo. The exercise commenced in April 2007 and ended in June 2008. The exercise was financed by the National Euro Changeover Committee (NECC) (75%) and the UHM (25%), following a call for offers by the NECC.
