The UHM sees this budgetary period as the critical period during which Maltese citizens will start to enjoy the real and full benefits of EU Membership. The optimal use of the funds allocated to Malta during this period presents us with the perfect opportunity to create the necessary conditions within which these benefits could be derived. Following the recent publication of the National Strategic Reference Framework, the General Council of the UHM has evaluated and discussed what, in their view, should be the main priorities for the employment of EU Structural Funds. Based on this dialogue, we have prepared this position paper which sets out the UHM’s position as to what the priorities for the allocation of the Structural Funds should be. This position paper presents a brief analysis of the state of the Maltese economy and outlines the union’s view about the main challenges being faced. It also presents what, in the opinion of the UHM, should be among the main priorities in terms of allocating Structural Funds, while bringing together the main priorities identified in the document.
